Tune-up bout scheduled for the former World champ

Eric Lucas set to make his return to boxing

On December 11th 2009 Bell Centre card

Montreal, Tuesday November 17th 2009 - Eric Lucas (38-7-3 14 KO) will return to professional boxing on Friday, December 11th 2009 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.  He will fight on the undercard of the highly anticipated WBC World Light Heavyweight rematch bout between Jean Pascal (24-1-0 16 KO) et Adrian Diaconu (26-1-0 15 KO).

After an absence of 4 years from the ring, the former World champion will dispute an eight-round tune-up bout against Ramon Pedro Moyano, 37 years old, with a professional record of 27-8-3 (15 K.-O.).  Ramon Pedro is the son of renowned boxer the late Carlos Monzon.  Eric Lucas previously announced his intentions to return to the sport he loves in August 2008, but his daughter Melodies’ sickness (now in remission) put those plans on the back burner.

“I went through all the necessary steps to get to this point.  I have been putting in the hard work for over a year now, training in the ring and out. I still have the strong desire to compete, but I wanted to accomplish this return the right way.  My fight on December 11th will test my reactions and reflexes, and will serve as a measuring stick to evaluate my energy level.  I realize it is a modest start, but we will see what comes next” declares Eric Lucas at the press gathering.

Eric knew he could count on the support of his friends Jean Bedard and Stephan Larouche while preparing his comeback.  “Eric still adores boxing and it is very important for InterBox to guide him in the right direction to ensure his return is successful.  His fight on December 11th will serve to evaluate his condition” states Jean Bedard.

Stephan Larouche will supervise Eric Lucas’ training, and Eric can rest assured that every detail will be looked at.  Eric, 38 years old, spent the last two weeks in Florida where he laced up the gloves against Lucian Bute during his sparring sessions. “His experience, his strength and his tenacity are the reasons why he his return is possible.  His sparring sessions in Florida convinced us that a comeback was warranted.  Eric worked better than many others that sparred with Lucian.  The only factor left is to see how his body reacts in combat situations” states Stephan Larouche.

Eric’s last professional bout was a WBA World Super Middleweight title fight against Mikkel Kessler last January 14th 2006.  Eric lost by TKO in the 10th round.

The Lucas vs. Moyano bout will be one of the first undercard bouts of the evening on Friday, December 11th 2009 at the Bell Centre.  Adrian Diaconu has requested that Eric work his corner during his World title bout against Jean Pascal in the Main Event of the evening.
